Youth Justice Programs
Youth Justice Programs are funded through the Ministry of Children, Community, and Social Services and include Individual, Family and Group Counselling (Adolescent Restorative Counselling) along with skill development programs for youth who are in conflict with the law. All Youth Justice programming provides opportunities for youth to take responsibility for their behaviours and become better equipped to make positive choices in the future.
Alternative to Custody (Attendance Centre or AC)
The AC program is intended for youth who may have been considered by the courts for a short-term custody sentence, but do not require intensive supervision. The AC program allows youth to remain in the community while participating in a structured and supervised program, tailored to their specific needs. Referrals are received through Youth Court or directly from Probation Officers.
Extra Judicial Sanctions (EJS)
Youth are referred to the EJS by Probation on approval of the Crown Attorney. Youth are referred to a variety of skill development programs that focus on strengths, and provide opportunities for youth to take responsibility for their behaviours and become better equipped to make positive choices in the future. In addition to Individual, Group and Family Counselling, the program menu includes Anger Management, Substance Abuse Prevention, Stop Shoplifting, Victim Impact Awareness, Education and Employment Support, Life Skills.
Healthy Intimacy for Adolescents (HIFA)
HIFA is a Sexual Abuse, Family Education and Treatment program that provides sexual abuse specific assessment, treatment, interagency resourcing and support to children and families where abuse of a sexual nature has occurred. Youth and their families are referred to by Probation.
