Complete Your Student Placement at FSYR
Thank you for your interest in Family Services York Region. FSYR is both a learning and a teaching organization. Working in collaboration with universities across North America, FSYR offers student and volunteer placements for Master’s Level clinicians. Because of our varied and rich programming, volunteers and students are able to experience a broad range of services and programs in addition to developing their skills in individual, couple and family therapy.
Services provided to our student volunteers include:
- Initial 4-day training prior to beginning at your site
- Regular Small Group Student Supervision (minimum four hours monthly, or more to meet the requirements of the learning institution)
- Group Supervision / Peer Consultation (2 hours monthly)
- One on one supervision regarding learning contracts and evaluations
- Professional Development Opportunities
- Opportunity to co-facilitate a group
Family Services York Region requires that all students be available a minimum of 500 onsite placement hours, approximately 3 days per week, 21 hours per week. 2 evenings are required. The placements run from September to April, with some exceptions for January to August. There is more flexibility for volunteers.
We have 3 office locations: Newmarket, Georgina, and Richmond Hill. Our students are placed primarily according to the location of their supervisor and available office space. Some travel between offices will be required. Please note, we are currently delivering all services virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As such, students are expected to practice remotely from a private and confidential space with access to internet and a cell phone.
Student placement positions are usually filled by mid-May each year, but all spots could be filled much earlier. No paid internships are available.
Vulnerable Sector checks are required for all student placements.
