Our groups provide strategies to cope with problems as well as offering support to adults, children and families.

Parenting for Life

This 8 week parenting support group provides support for parents of children of all ages from birth to adult and will include weekly handouts. It focuses on child safety, improving communication skills with your child, developing/nurturing self-esteem, responsibility/accountability, handling difficult emotions, identifying parenting styles and positive parenting strategies for managing behaviour as well as stress management techniques for the parents.

Triple P 0-12

This Positive Parenting Program is evidence based proven effective in providing parents with tools to help children under 12 years of age with behavioural and emotional problems. You’ll learn about effective parenting strategies, how to promote your child’s development, self-esteem and manage common child behaviour problems using principles to help you deal with almost any situation that might arise. The group is structured for 6/7 group sessions, including a workbook and weekly homework tasks and 1 or 2 telephone follow up sessions.

Triple P Teen

This Positive Parenting Program is evidence based proven effective in providing parents with tools to help tweens and teens with behavioural and emotional problems. You’ll learn about effective parenting strategies, how to promote your teen’s development, independence, manage common behaviour problems and principles to build respect and better communication. The group is structured for 6/7 group sessions, including a workbook and weekly homework tasks and 1 or 2 telephone follow up sessions.

Family Transitions Triple P

This Positive Parenting Program is for separated or divorced parents to learn how to manage as single parents and co-parents. This 7 week course will address self-care and is designed to help members recover from the anger and resentment that often accompanies a relationship breakdown.

MAST (Mindfulness & Stress Reduction Training)

This 5 week group offers members the opportunity to better understand their unique response to stress and learn valuable skills to help manage stress and regulate their emotions. Through education, mindfulness practice, meditations and group support, members will expand their toolkit of coping strategies.

Men’s Anger Management and Positive Living Program

The Men’s Anger Management Positive Living group is a 12 week program for men to help participants respond to their anger in more positive, constructive ways. The course focuses on attaining a greater understanding of their physical, emotional, cognitive and behavioural responses to anger, particularly when in conflict. The program will assist participants in responding to feelings of anger through the use of assertiveness techniques, positive communication skills, validation, empathy, problem-solving and negotiation. Participants will learn how to de-escalate and take responsibility for their own thoughts and/or actions.

Raising Hope

A 12 week course to build resiliency. Ideal for people who want to feel more empowered, or who feel stuck and want to learn how to move forward and gain confidence and hope. Learn and Practice CBT, art therapy, experiential learning, mindfulness and centering techniques to build confidence and assertiveness, conquer anxiety and depression, overcome codependency and learn the advantages of goal setting and how to achieve those goals. Group is conducted in a safe and supportive environment.

Farsi Women’s Support Group

This 8 week program focuses on self-confidence, assertiveness, communication skills, parenting, healthy relationships, immigration and settlement issues, self-care, health & wellness and community Resources. This group will be delivered in Farsi.

Emotional and Interpersonal Skills Development for Children (Ages 8 – 13)

This group is replacing the Tools to Stay Cool and Encouraging Heroes programs.

This is a 10 week concurrent parent and child program that focuses on skill development and experiential learning in the areas of emotion regulation and interpersonal relationships. This is an integrated and evidence informed program where children will learn and practice skills such as identifying feelings, regulating emotions, positive coping strategies, communication, assertiveness, self-compassion, understanding boundaries and increasing self-esteem. Simultaneously, parent sessions will focus on gaining awareness and insight into how to support their child and learn skills in emotion coaching. These groups start with 1 orientation session (week 1) and followed by 8 weekly group sessions and conclude with a booster session a few weeks after the group ends.

Emotional and Interpersonal Skills Development for Youth (Ages 14 – 18)

This group is replacing the Working with Worry program.

This is a 10 week program for youth that focuses on skill development and experiential learning in the areas of emotion regulation and interpersonal relationships. This is an integrated and evidence informed program where children will learn and practice skills such as identifying feelings, regulating emotions, positive coping strategies, communication, assertiveness, self-compassion, understanding boundaries and increasing self-esteem. Parents will be required to attend two sessions (midway and end) to focus on gaining awareness and insight into how to support their child. This group begins with an orientation session followed by 8 weekly group sessions and concludes with a booster session a few weeks after the group ends.

Transgender Support Group

A free group for anyone experiencing or questioning changes on the gender spectrum. Discussions include but are not limited to a variety of issues such as coming out, health and hormones, dealing with discrimination, negotiating relationships.

Outreach or Language Specific Groups

FSYR provides free Women’s support groups in a variety of languages such as Tamil, Farsi, Hindi, Urdu and Punjabi.

These weekly group sessions offer either Yoga, Zumba or relaxation/meditation exercises along with discussion topics that include:

  • Family Stress
  • Parenting
  • Stress Management/Relaxation
  • Immigrant and settlement issues
  • Legal and Employment information
  • health and nutrition as well learning about neighbourhood resources
