Volunteers
Family Services York Region is committed to volunteerism as a means of enhancing community capacity that increases well being for all its members. As such, the agency assesses its needs and resources for service volunteers and students, and has developed policies and procedures for the recruitment, selection, training, placement, supervision, evaluation and recognition of its volunteers and students.
New Board Members will be recruited based on experience, skills and abilities that will assist the organization. Every effort will be made to include members from a broad range of backgrounds to reflect the ethnic, social, economic, religious or sexual orientation diversity of the community served by the agency. Potential Board Members must live and/or work within the catchment area served by the agency. The Agency assesses its need for volunteers and students on an annual basis as part of the Service Planning Process conducted by Agency staff. On a program basis, Program Managers and staff identify the need for service volunteers and students, define the role(s) that would meet that need and outline program outcomes that would result from volunteer and student involvement. The Program Manager assumes primary responsibility for assessing the resources required to recruit, train, supervise, evaluate and recognize volunteers and students. The outcome of this needs assessment and resources to support volunteers and students is incorporated as a goal into the annual Service Plan of each program.
